The seventh annual festival is scheduled for January 17– 21, 2014, at Diggi Palace, Jaipur.’ “The Rajasthani sessions have a lot of range and variety this year. The festival is rooted in the vibrant local culture of the state, its rich oral traditions, its joyous music, its poetic and balladic traditions”, says Namita Gokhale, co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival. This year, the festival shall pay tribute to ‘Bijji’, in a special session titled “Naman: Homage to a Storyteller”.
The Rajasthan volume of the Peoples Linguistic Survey of India (PLSI), edited by Dr Surajmal Rao and Dr Madan Meena under the supervision of Ganesh Devy will be launched during the festival. The PLSI is an authentic and comprehensive survey carried out by people who belong to the respective speech communities or have worked closely with them. The Rajasthan Survey has initially identified 31 languages, many of which were not mentioned in earlier linguistic surveys.
