Prashasti RastogiGBO New Delhi is set to launch a programme for young professionals in publishing that will show them what they need to know in order to stay abreast with the requisite skills in the age of digital publishing and transmedia! The publishers training programme will be held at IIC, New Delhi from December 5-6, 2014.

The Indian publishing industry is experiencing a rise in the engagement of young professionals who are making a significant contribution to the strategy of the future. The face of publishing is also changing very competitively and there is a dearth of training opportunity on the new age topic. The world of digital content creation can be a complicated one with so many different forms of technology to use. In India, there is currently another shortfall in the area of short term hands-on training modules. This programme is aimed at young professionals who are already working in the industry and wish to acquire expertise in new techniques in publishing.

Here, Prashasti Rastogi, director, German Book Office New Delhi talks about the all new publishers training programme for young professionals.

Q: GBO has initiated quite a few training initiatives and created exchange platforms in the past, for the publishing industry – with GLOBALOCAL, JumpStart and other programmes, how is this training different from the others?

P Rastogi: In this time of transition coupled with growth, there is a need to equip the workforce with adequate skills to enable them to contribute towards continuous growth and global competitiveness. In an endeavour to fill the gap for skill based training for professionals in the publishing value chain, we have designed the ‘Publishers Training Programme for Young Professionals’. The objective is to provide know-how on important trends and support talent development in a concentrated hands-on module.

Q: How will this training programme address the shifts in the publishing industry, and how do you envision its applicability in addressing any challenges that this throws up in the subcontinent?

P Rastogi: This two day training programme will help take the mystery out of topics such as digital publishing, multi-platform strategy and rights management for cross media. The participants will learn, from international experts and other star practitioners from India, the know-how for conducting business. This interface will take a look at the experiments in the international publishing industry with a localised perspective.

Q: Tell us about the experts and leaders who shall impart this training?

P Rastogi: The speciality of this programme is the practitioner faculty. Since the goal is to achieve business relevant skills, it is very valuable to understand the ecosystem through the people who engage with it day in and day out. It has been also designed with an interdisciplinary perspective, i.e. to think beyond the base line operations and explore feasible extensions for our industry. Therefore we have invited successful industry heads from areas like digital rights solutions to cross media licensing and merchandising models, etc.
