NBT organizes certificate course in book publishing at Delhi

Book publishing industry ranks as the third largest in the world. The phenomenal growth and increasing global visibility of Indian writers and publishers has created need to produce and market books more professionally. This has also created plenty of lucrative employment opportunities for professionally trained people.

National Book Trust, also known as NBT, has been organizing training courses in book publishing in different parts of the country. Latest in the series of such programmes was a job oriented four week Certificate Course (July 10-August 6, 2018) in Book Publishing at it’s headquarter at New Delhi for new entrants to the world of publishing. The course was inaugurated by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, member secretary of Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi. Dr. Joshi expressed his views that even as eBooks have come in use; charm of physical form of books shall remain forever. He encouraged the participants to emulate highest standards set by other publishers and said that book publishing is an ideal profession for bringing in positive change in life and the society.

Prof. Baldeo Bhai Sharma expressed his happiness that the training courses in book publishing have caught the attention of all stock holders in the publishing field and also creating job opportunities for the trainees. He expressed happiness that these courses have attracted good response even in remote areas where training facilities in this discipline are scarce including North East. Dr. Rita Chowdhury, Director NBT expressed that these training courses are part of the mandate for which NBT was created as back as 1957. Popularity of the course can be gauged by the fact that thirty participants across the country are participating in this course. Some of the participants enrolled for the course have even got PhD; M.Tech; and B.Tech degrees. Members of the faculty are drawn from the leading publishing professionals, specialized institutions, universities and experts from NBT who provide insights into various aspects of book publishing.
