PublisHer and NYU salute women with the future of publishing in their hands
This event marked another milestone in PublisHer’s journey to create a truly global network for women in publishing. Building on its established presence at international fairs and festivals, PublisHer continues to expand its reach, fostering connections that strengthen the industry and empower women worldwide.
PublisHer, in collaboration with the NYU School of Professional Studies (SPS) Center for Publishing, Writing and Media, and UN Publications, hosted an inspirational evening in New York under the banner ‘The Women Shaping the Future of Publishing. ’The event drew leading voices from across the publishing industry for a thoughtful exploration of women’s leadership, AI’s inexorable rise and the power of global networks to drive enduring positive change.
The highlights…
It was an evening of keynotes, panels and networking that assembled senior professionals, rising talent, and students ready to contribute to publishing’s evolving landscape. Speakers included Lisa Lyons Johnston, Andrea Chambers and an influential panel of publishing leaders from North America and beyond.
Bodour Al Qasimi, Founder of PublisHer and CEO Kalimat Group, addressed attendees via video message, said, “We are here to build lasting relationships, create meaningful opportunities for exchange, and ensure women in publishing everywhere can learn from one another and rise together. With every event, our community grows stronger, confirming that North America is an essential part of our global vision. These conversations allow us not only to share experiences but also to listen, learn, and grow together.”
The gathering further highlighted PublisHer’s growing footprint in North America, with consensus on the need for stronger cross-regional collaboration, mentorship, and training opportunities to close leadership gaps and support women at every stage of their careers.
Reflecting on PublisHer’s genesis, Maria Pallante, President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers (AAP), said, “In just a few short years, I’ve watched PublisHer grow from a discussion over lunch to a vibrant international organization. It seems this community was always meant to be, one we always needed, but for the right leader. I am so proud to support such an incredible network of talent and to recognize the thousands of women who help make publishing so impressive and impactful on a global scale.”
The programme also featured a presentation by Shimmr AI exploring new possibilities for modern publishers, a panel where industry leaders shared insights on innovation, leadership and the evolving global publishing ecosystem. It concluded with a networking reception, during which attendees and participants engaged in thoughtful discussion of the evening’s themes.
