“We want reading promotion centres and imaginative reading promoters”

Says award-winning author Prof. S Sivadas, who has written over two hundred books over the last fifty years.He writes on popular science, contemporary ecology, short stories, novels and other fictional tales with an emphasis on scientific outlook. He is a recipient of multiple accolades such as the Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards, Kairali Book Trust awards and lifetime achievement award from the Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children (AIWC) among others. He says, “Reading should be inculcated slowly and steadily. What we want is not libraries where books are imprisoned. We want reading promotion centres, imaginative reading promoters there should read the books for children. Various book activities should follow. This way children could enjoy reading. Book should be a dynamic tool, a tool to use, to enjoy, to love and of course the best friend for every child. In fact I have written a book titled ‘Playing with books.”
