25 Padma Awards winners in Literature & Education category

Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year. This year the President has approved conferment of 119 Padma Awards including 1 duo case. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards.

Padma Bhushan was awarded to Chandrashekhar Kambara from Karnataka. The following were the winners of Padma Shri: Prakasarao Asavadi – Andhra Pradesh; Dharma Narayan Barma – West Bengal; Sujit Chattopadhyay – West Bengal; Srikant Datar – USA; Dadudan Gadhavi – Gujarat; Jai Bhagwan Goyal – Haryana; Jagadish Chandra Halder – West Bengal; Mangal Singh Hazowary – Assam; Namdeo C Kamble – Maharashtra; Rajat Kumar Kar – Odisha; Rangasami Lakshminarayana Kashyap – Karnataka; Nicholas Kazanas – Greece; Chandrakant Mehta – Gujrat; Nanda Prusty – Odisha; Balan Putheri – Kerela; Chaman Lal Sapru (Posthumous) – Jammu & Kashmir; Imran Shah – Assam; Arjun Singh Shekhawat – Rajashan; Ram Yatna Shukla – Uttar Pradesh; Mridula Sinha (Posthumous) – Bihar; Kapil Tiwari – Madhya Pradesh and Father Valle?s (Posthumous) – Spain.

In Literature and Education- Journalism category, the award winners include Solomon Pappaiah – Tamil Nadu and Roman Sarmah – Assam.
