Indian participation at Sharjah International Book Fair

More than one million book-lovers from within the UAE and around the world visited the 32nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair. It has come a long way to become one of the four biggest book fairs and trade shows across the globe. The 11-day event, which was organised under the patronage of Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah under the theme ‘For Love of the Written Word’ was held from November 6-16, 2013. It drew 1,010 publishers from all over the world, including new participating countries like Hungary, Portugal and New Zealand.

The CAPEXIL made presence in the show by way of mobilizing publishers and printers (with 11 members) under National Pavilion which made an indelible mark amongst the international exhibitors of the show and trade visitors. CAPEXIL represented the fair (under hall no. 5) with stalwarts of the Indian printing and publishing industry and showcased latest printing & publishing solutions from all over India.

During this fair, wide range of Indian printing and publishing solutions were displayed, consisting of books, periodicals, newspapers, other publications, educational institutions, teaching aids and educational materials, stationery and library services. Trade visitors like buying groups, booksellers, book retailers, wholesalers, librarians, and literary agents could discover upcoming trends, eco-friendly products and got an opportunity to liaise and place orders and also were able to network with their existing suppliers.

SIBF 2013 was highlighted with the presence of renowned Indian authors, ministers and crowd pulling celebrities. Top literary talent was featured with appearances by bestselling novelists like Jeffrey Archer, Ruskin Bond and former president of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. SIBF has always had a very strong connection with the Indian Subcontinent and this year was no different. At the award function DC Books, member of CAPEXIL, bagged the Best Foreign Publisher Award.

With huge success of National pavilion at Sharjah International Book Fair 2013, CAPEXIL contemplates to be a part of potential book fairs of the world to facilitate its members to penetrate the global market further.
