Author of ‘Bandit Queen’ passes away

Mala Sen, the author of Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi recently died of oesophageal cancer. She was 63 and through her writings, had explored the wider issue of the victimization of women, especially in rural India.

Her book Death by Fire: Sati, Dowry Death and Female Infanticide in Modern India (2001) was also highly acclaimed.
