The Anna Centenary Library in Chennai recently offered a glimpse into the future of book translations that could very well mark the beginning of a new chapter in Indian publishing. More than 200 industry professionals—publishers, authors, translators, media professionals, and technology enthusiasts—gathered to celebrate the Tamil translation launch of Shimmer Don’t Shake: How Publishing Can Embrace AI by Nadim Sadek, now titled AchchamThavir, published by Aazhi Publishers.

The event’s significance lay in the book’s timely subject matter as well as what it represented: the first major demonstration of how AI-powered translation technology could transform the economics, speed, and accessibility of multilingual publishing. The Tamil edition, translated using Ailaysa’s Adaptive AI Translation technology and edited by Senthil Nathan, Founder & CEO of Ailaysa as well as a renowned translator, proved that high-quality literary translation could be achieved in weeks rather than months, opening new pathways for global content distribution.

The event’s significance was underscored by the caliber of speakers who participated. Richard Charkin, Founder of Mensch Publishing and former President of the International Publishers Association, delivered a compelling endorsement of AI’s potential in publishing. His insights, drawn from over five decades in the industry, carry particular weight.
