Celebrating 75 Years of India as a Republic (1950-2025) at The New Delhi World Book Fair
The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) 2025, organized at Bharat Mandapam, taking place from February 1-9, 2025 celebrates the theme of Republic@75 marking a journey of nation-building, freedom, equality, and governance.
The New Delhi World Book fair is organized annually by the National Book Trust of India, the nodal agency for the promotion of books and reading culture in India, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Over the years, it has substantially grown in size and scale, attracting major publishing houses from across the globe and opening a gateway to the multilingual publishing world in one of the fastest-growing book markets worldwide. This edition will showcase books published in more than 100 languages.
The groundbreaking initiative of the NDWBF “Festival of Festivals,” which started in 2024, provides a literary stage for rising book festivals of India at the New Delhi World Book Fair. This platform encourages discourse on books, literature, technology, and humanity. This year, it has expanded to include more than 100 sessions featuring nationally and globally renowned speakers and experts discussing contemporary poetry, history, and the impact of artificial intelligence, among other topics.
Under the Republic@75 dialogues, the discussions will highlight India’s republican framework, ensuring that ideals such as equality, social justice, and fundamental rights—including freedom of speech and expression—are safeguarded.
With more than 2 million visitors, NDWBF 2025 is among the world’s most visited book fairs. In addition to its popularity with the public, its B2B zone has gained prominence through rights exchanges, where publishing companies from across the globe participate for rights exchanges and related B2B sales. This zone will have over 300 scheduled meetings with participants from North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. The Publishing Leadership Forum, “CEO Speak,” is also scheduled to host speakers from the publishing, education, culture, and trade sectors on February 2 at The Ashok Hotel.
For the first time, the 2025 edition will also feature screenings of a curated list of children’s films and a Digital Experience Zone. This initiative aims to adopt an inclusive approach, where digital publishing partners will showcase technology-related solutions and products.
“The New Delhi World Book Fair has evolved over the past 52 years into one of the largest celebrations of books and reading culture in the world. It honors not only books but also all forms of creative expression, including stories, drama, films, and ideas. This year’s edition commemorates 75 years of India as a Republic, with the slogan “Hum Bharat ke log” or “We, the People of India…” serving as the opening line of the Preamble to the Constitution. This slogan reflects the collective will and aspirations of the people of India. It symbolizes the creative expression of these ideals, showcased through a diverse and vibrant collection of books that embody the nation’s rich literary and intellectual heritage.”
