Institutional framework for Rashtriya E Pustakalay!
The Department of School Education, Ministry of Education, Government ofIndia, signed an MoU with the National Book Trust under the aegis of Departmentof Higher Education, Ministry of Education in New Delhi to establish aninstitutional framework for the Digital Library Platform, Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya.The event was attended by Secretary of Department of Higher Education, K.Sanjay Murthy; Secretary of Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Sanjay Kumar; Joint Secretary, Archana Sharma Awasthi,and other senior officials of the Ministry.
Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya, a first-of-its-kind digital library, aims to foster a lifelong love of reading among Indian children and youth, offering over 1,000 non-academic books in more than 22 languages, in addition to English, published by over 40 reputed publishers. It will provide device-agnostic accessibility and categorize books for readers aged 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years.
The Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya app will be available for download on Android and iOS devices, and will offer books in various genres such as adventure, mystery, humor, literature, fiction, classics, non-fiction, history, biographies, comics, picture books, science, and poetry. The project aims to bridge the digital divide,and promote cultural awareness, patriotism, and empathy.
