The publishing process often involves multiple workflows with varying levels of complexity, with some of them functioning in sequence while others run in tandem. Pajeflow has adopted PageMajik’s workflow management system to design and handle such multiple workflows. The workflow engine lends itself to customization at a project level.

Why Pajeflow?

“The process of publishing hasn’t changed, even though technology has changed. Publishers have been outsourcing authoring services, which then goes for typesetting, followed by a copy edit and layout, and so on. The Publisher’s aim is to enhance readability and understanding of the content so that it reaches the audience. But, there is a lot of detail in publishing. What we have done is to use technology available within PageMajik, our flagship product, wherein every element of publishing, right from authoring to final delivery has been integrated, and made seamless,” says Ashok Giri.

A customer uploads files and the Pajeflow team takes over. The assigned contact puts the files through the paces, and the customer can visually see what’s happening to the files. As in who is working on it, what stage of the workflow it is in, and even estimate when it will be completed. “Within Pajeflow, information is captured at every stage and transmitted to the next where needed. When a person completes a task, it becomes a real-time dashboard to allow the next person to take over. Handoffs are greatly reduced, and the time taken to produce pages is reduced by at least 20%.The philosophy is, if there’s one person spending time on a page, let’s capture as much information as we can get from this time so that it benefits the next person or the next step,” he adds.

With the help of Artificial Intelligence, Pajeflow tags and structures the content. “So for example, if you take a simple book or monograph of about 300 pages, and let’s say with 10 figures and 10 tables, it will be completed in about 85 minutes,” says Ashok.

Users worldwide…now expanding into India

PageMajik has been selling its product to publishers all over the world, including countries such as the US, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Singapore, and the Philippines. “We are yet to start our operations in India,” says Ashok.

For Indian publishers…

“We are now demonstrating to Indian publishers that Pajeflow is a virtual production office that will allow them to see real-time status of every single activity performed on their manuscript. What’s more? We are offering them 30% discount on their current typesetting spend,” he shares.

“In the first phase, we are going to select some publishers and run a pilot, while making sure that everything is fine-tuned to their satisfaction. Pajeflow will be offered as a service on a per book basis. There are 20 different modules to choose from. We recognise two kinds of users –an internal user within the publiser’s office, and an external user such as an author, copy editor, proofreader, or an indexer. Now for external users, we have a very nice interface, they just click on a link in an email to access the system and are spared the need to remember a login and a password. Access to content can be determined (and restricted) by a user’s role. Only a project that a user has access to will be visible to them, and the access is determined by the publisher. Needless to say, the IP protection of the publisher is maintained,” he adds.

“So, when you are a Pajeflow customer, you have complete flexibility, visibility, control and predictability – just like a standard operating procedure for you. For your Pajeflow books, you get to make use of all other functionalities that PageMajik’s technology supports, such as an archive/repository where you can store your files for future use,” he says.

In summary, the advantages of signing up for a Virtual Production Office with Pajeflow are:

  • A dedicated and secure workspace
  • Quick turnarounds
  • Workflow-driven
  • AI-assisted automation
  • Scalability
  • Version control
  • Real-time reports

Message to Indian publishers…

“So the most important thing is to keep an open mind and look at technology and see how it can benefit your business. Any technology is disruptive, but the publisher needs to be aware that their content is their biggest IP. And they should store their most valuable IP in such a way that it is always future-ready,” concludes Ashok.
