The Zubaan-Prabha Khaitan Foundation Translation Series

1,029

The Prabha Khaitan Foundation and Zubaan have collaborated to bring feminist literature into the Indian languages. Generous support provided by the PK Foundation allows the Zubaan Trust (a not-for-profit NGO that works to document and record the histories of women and women’s movements in India), and its sister organization Zubaan Publishers to provide translation grants to publishers and translators. These grants are a step towards ensuring that translators are paid fairly for their valuable work, and working with Indian language publishers to bring translations of feminist content into Indian languages.

In its first year, the collaboration has already provided translation grants for 18 titles in 8 languages (Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam). Thetitles currently being translated include academic works, fiction, non-fiction, and young adult books.

The participating publishers include Mehta Publishers (Marathi), DC Books (Malayalam), Insight Publica (Malayalam), Hyderabad Book Trust (Telugu), Maitri (Tamil), Panmuga Medai (Tamil), Kavi Prakashana (Kannada), Unbound Script (Hindi), Jadavpur University Press (Bengali) and Rethink Foundation (Punjabi and Hindi).
