Books with real child appeal, using innovative concepts, high-quality illustrations, informative writing and above all, humour to captivate the minds of young people…Little Pearl Books has it all! From fairy tales to activity books, colouring books, bible stories, timeless classics, picture word books, knowledge books, encyclopaedias, board books, sound book, craft kits, and picture dictionaries…Little Pearl Books knows how to touch the right chord with the children.

Established in New Delhi, three-and-half years back, the company is backed with the printing support of Nutech Print services, the parent organisation. From printing to publishing, the transition has been interesting, shares Ravi Shroff, director Little Pearl Books. “Since we have been into book printing for a long time, we were a regular participant at various international book fairs like London Book Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, Nigeria International Book Fair, to name a few. At these fairs, we used to display samples of our printed titles. Many a times we got queries from visitors to buy the books, which set us thinking. We started creating our own titles and displayed at these fairs. Our content was liked by the visitors but the international appeal was missing. At this juncture, we hired international content writers and illustrators and have been successful in tapping the international market. We learnt a lot from Europe and Latin America and further modified our titles,” he recalls.

So how are Indian illustrations different from international ones? “The look of the characters differs in every country. Even the colour schemes are different. For example, the landscapes which looks so dull in India, gives a bright colour in European countries. Thus makes a difference even in the children books,” explains Ravi.

With a team of eight designers and a panel of 6-8 writers, Little Pearl started with 50 titles and are now looking to expand their number of titles as well.

After having tasted the success in international arena with sale/rights sale of their books, Little Pearl Books is now focussing moderately on the Indian market. “Actually, 90 percent of our sales come from exports. But in the coming years will start to focus on the Indian market as well,” he said.
