Coimbatore Art and Theatrical Society (CATS) recently organized an event that saw launch of the book On a Clear Day, You Can See India – The Little World of the District Official in India’s North East by ex-IAS officer C Balagopal. It’s a collection of his days spent in Manipur as a probationary officer in the late 70s.

“Manipur was a very fascinating place and still is,” explained Balagopal. However, he added that he also discovered that the distance between India and Manipur is not merely geographical but more a psychological one. Written in the form of anecdotes and some conversations, his book tries to explore beyond the geography and has tried to lend a worm’s view. He tries to offer certain solutions to the existing problems in the state. The discussion was followed by a question and answer session which proved to be a greater insight into the mystic world of Manipur. Published by HarperCollins, the book is priced at Rs 299.
