The Frankfurter Buchmesse (FBM) is a leading venue for printed and digital content. In 2018, they had 2,85,024 trade and private visitors from 164 countries and 7503 exhibitors from 109 countries. Here is where publishing experts meet up with partners from technology and creative industries such as film and games – to exchange ideas, be inspired, try out new technologies, and cultivate contacts. It’s an incredible social and cultural experience that offers a wide range of exciting events. Here is how India is set to make a mark at FBM this year.
Jo Nesbø, Ken Follett, Margaret Atwood – thrillers from Norway, historical novels, eloquent tales of dystopia — Frankfurter Buchmesse offers just the right thing for every fan of literature. Writers from all over the world take centre stage and meet their fans at readings, book presentations, autograph sessions and panel discussion. Joining one such conversation is one of five Indian authors to win the prestigious Coburg Rückert Prize, Sara Rai. A Hindi fiction writer and translator,she will share her take on the stereotypes in “Female Writing in Asia” at the Frankfurt Pavilion on Wednesday 16 October, 2019 from 12.00 to 1.00 pm.

Making its debut at the FBM 2019 to celebrate the diversity in Indian publishing is Jaipur BookMark of the Jaipur Literature Festival. Neeta Gupta, Founder of Yatra Books will unravel the success stories of “The Great Indian Book Bazar” with eminent publishers and booksellers of the Indian industry like Arpita Das, Naveen Kishore, Kannan Sundaram, Anuj Bahri, Trisha De Niyogi, Aditi Maheshwari and Oliver Moystad. The event will take place at the International Stage, in Hall 5.1. on Wednesday 17 October from 12.00 to 1.00 pm.

Frankfurter Buchmesse is invested in building bridges for stakeholders of the publishing value-chain by providing translation funds, various capacity building initiatives, global networking platforms and collaborations. Partnering with Capexil (sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India) is one such step towards bringing parity among publishers, to put out content in the global marketplace. Along with the Publications Division, there are 32 pan-Indian publishing and digital companies that will be a part of the Capexil’s Collective at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2019.

The Fair doesn’t end in Frankfurt this year! FBM’s very own rights-trading platform the IPR License (https://iprlicense.com/) will be introduced to the Indian market. By signing up for JUMPSTART 2019, the annual congress for children’s content creators, Indian publishers will be able to upload and promote their titles for free. JUMPSTART will take place in Mumbai on November 23, 2019 and in Delhi on November 29, 2019. Since its inception, JUMPSTART has completed 10 editions with over 181 speakers from 13 countries and over 20 industries, and has hosted 30 masterclasses on various topics, establishing itself as the space for creative ideation and collaboration.
