A visit at Yodakin…
As I moved in between the lanes and by lanes of Hauz Khas, I found another book store in the vicinity of nature. A huge water body with a man-made fountain and endless greenery in front of me…but I chose to step inside Yodakin – an offering from Yoda Press, for book lovers who are looking for more than just bestsellers and chart toppers.
A spacious book store with bright orange interiors, it is an ideal place to spend time and explore these books. Arpita Das of Yoda Press added, “It is an independent publishing venture with a view to develop dynamic non-fiction list both academic as well as popular. We mainly focus on areas like urban studies, sexuality and the body, gender, cinema, contemporary art, popular cultures and new prospective in history.”
“We, as an independent publisher had to struggle to place our authors in the big bookstores, who look at books as a purely commercial venture. Realizing that other independent publishers also faced the same problem, we decided to start our own bookstore where independent publishers and first time novelists could place their books and at least have a chance reaching their respective audience,” she elaborated.
