Organised annually by the Nigerian Book Fair Trust, the Nigeria international Book Fair was held from May 9-14, 2011 at multi-purpose hall of the University of Lagos. This was second national level participation of Capexil with 25 constituent Indian members at Nigeria International Book Fair. According to a press note from Capexil, it provided a platform to understand in depth about Nigeria and market of books, publications and printing of the country which is embedded with piracy of books. Abundant opportunities exist for Indian printers and publishers in respect of printing services and export of books. However, as usual China is the main competitor. China’s deep penetration in Nigeria with developmental work in the sector of agriculture, mining and infrastructure etc. is the reason for expanding business horizon in the other sectors also.

The press note further said that, “To combat the piracy factor Indian publishers should consider supply of books at a lower cost and printers must offer rock bottom price for bulk order of printing services. All this is possible if effective network is build up and joint venture is developed. High Commission of India at Nigeria need to play a pivotal role to provide professional back up by way of building up liaison with the potential importers of books and publications and outsourcing agency for printing services at the government level and private sector. Indian exporting community of the said sector needs to restrain themselves from game of undercutting which can gain for one time but not for permanent business in the market of Nigeria where serious and steady players win business.”
