Bangalore-based Vasan Publications was founded by Raghunathan, in the year 1970 as Vasan Library- a small lending library. A decade later, they started distribution of books in a small way in Bangalore in 1981. “Moving forward, we started publishing general knowledge and children’s story books in English and Kannada languages in 1985. This was the time when we also started distributing books in Karnataka and neighbouring states. Today, we distribute books of 60 other publishers. Our motto has always been – quality books at affordable price,” says Raghunathan.

Publishing wing…

Over the years, Vasan Publications obtained foreign rights of few titles and started publishing books under the Mastermind Books imprint.

Today, they majorly publish in English and Kannada languages, with a few titles in Tamil and Malayalam also. “We have an active title list of 1600 titles till date. On an average, we publish around 100 titles in a year,” shares Raghunathan. They have in-house facility for DTP, designing and editing.

Exclusive titles…

“We are the exclusive licensees of authors like James Hadley Chase, Erle Stanley Gardner (Perry Mason), Irving Wallace etc,” he details. “We distribute our books on national level through our network of distributors and dealers. Our range includes fiction, non-fiction, motivation, self-help, cookery, children’s’ story, hobby, road atlases and maps, pre-school books, etc. We have translated and published many bestsellers into Kannada language,” he adds.
