The sixth edition of the IHC Indian Languages Festival was successfully held from November 5-7, 2016, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The theme for 2016 – Language as Public Action- explored the responsibility of the creative individual who speaks out in public.

Referring to Amartya Sen’s insistence on a departure from the existing theories of justice to converge human hope and history, Rizio Yohannan Raj, creative director, ILF Samanvay, said, “ILF Samanvay too is a departure of sorts– from the existing Lit fest formats. It is an intimation of our conviction that it is no longer possible for us to just long for a happy democracy of languages and keep hoping in a transcendentalist manner. We must work with the idea of language, functions of language, forms of language, traps of language, currents of language—and this work must be anchored in thinking—responsible yet non-linear thinking. A sort of thinking that must invoke the character of light—at once particle in a specific time-space, and a wave in the larger history of civilization.”
