AAP Freedom to Publish Award goes to Januškevi? Publishing House
The Association of American Publishers (AAP) announced the winner of the 2024 Freedom to Publish Award. Currently operating from Poland, Januškevi? Publishing House was recognised as having demonstrated courage and fortitude in defending freedom of expression, outside of the United States. Januškevi? Publishing House is currently shortlisted for the 2024 IPA Prix Voltaire.
Januškevi? Publishing House was founded in 2014 and publishes fiction, non-fiction, and historical books in Belarusian language despite the Belarusian government’s Russian influence. The founder, Andrej Januškevi?, was arrested in 2022 and imprisoned for 28 days. After his release, Januškevi? fled to Poland, from where his publishing house continues to publish for the Belarusian market.
