New title India in Emerging Asia released

Pentagon Press, new Delhi recently released their latest title India in Emerging Asia edited by Dr Sudhir Singh, at New Delhi. The chief guest of the function was General (Dr) VK Singh (retd), hon’ble minister of state for external affairs, Government of India.

Prof K Warikoo, former member, National Security Advisory Council, Government of India, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi delivered welcome address and outlined priorities of the new Indian government in Asia and suggested more focus on neglected area like Central Asia.

Dr Sudhir Singh, University of Delhi in his address opined that although it is an Asian century but divergences of interests among major countries have prevented the real emergence of an Asian century. While, Prof D Gopal, director, School of Social Science, IGNOU, New Delhi delivered special address. He suggested that new government must create a cocktail of hard and soft power.

While, Ambassador NN Jha, former lt. governor, Andaman & Nicobar and Pondicherry delivered Guest of Honor address. He outlined that Modi led NDA government-2 neighborhood policy need to be more comprehensive. He was of the opinion that devolution of power in Sri Lanka can take place in phases and we must cooperate the initiatives taken by the new regime in Sri Lanka.

General (Dr) VK Singh (retd.), hon’ble minister of state for External Affairs, Government of India explained that stability in Asia will depend on peaceful and cooperative relationship among major Asian powers. He expressed his hope that China will understand this reality and act with this spirit to accommodate the genuine aspirations of their neighbors. He also stressed that ‘Act East Policy’ will be implemented with a new spirit.
